Brayn's Top 7 Happy Song

Like most people, I enjoy music very much. Though I don't have formal education in music, I believe I have a pretty eclectic ear for it. I love music from all genres (some more than others). Being Bilingual, I also have a ear for Spanish music as well, though I admit, not as much as I used to. I believe the ability to make and enjoy music is a gift from the Creator (s) respectively. It has the ability to solve problems, or ease pain, the ability to understand you when it seems that no one else may. Music is the expression of our souls, it even has the ability to alter moods.

In this essay, I am going to go through the top 7 songs that instantly makes me happy from the moment they come on. Though some may not be meant to be uplifting, the upbeat music and flow of the lyrics and overall lighthearted tone eases the mind. Some take me back to another time, some inspire strength, hope, and direction and some are just fun. Why the odd number of Songs? Because those were the ones that instantly came to mind without trying. Something to be noted is that the one thing that all these songs have in common is that they are all great sing along songs and i do very much love to sing along.

Do you agree with this list? Let me know what your instant "Happy Songs" are in the comment section.

#7- I only want to be with you_Hootie and the Blowfish.

How can your mood not be affected by a band named Hottie and the Blowfish? This country rock band made a huge splash in the 90's with hit's like " Hold my Hand" and "Let her cry" but it was "I only wanna be with you" that makes the list as a song that always lifts my mood. It's the classic story of opposites attracting. Though this 90's band is not longer together Darius Rucker still tours with his country band.

"You and me, we come from different worlds, You like to laugh at me when I look at other girls. Sometimes you're crazy and you wonder why I'm such a baby 'cause the dolphins make me cry. Well there's nothing I can do. I've been looking for a girl like you.

#6-"Running Down a Dream _Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

This late Florida rocker came onto the scene in the 70s and never stopped rocking until the day he died, in late 2017. Running Down a Dreams speaks for itself really. It's a story of gaining momentum and achieving goals against all odds, going through obstacles, head on. Like the lyrics, the southern rock styles of Petty and The Heart Breakers leaves an image of driving down a long country highway into the unknown, taking chances and getting what's yours. Instant happiness for me when I hear it. "I rolled on, the sky grew dark , I put the pedal down to make some time. There's something good waitin' down this road, I'm pickin' up whatever's mine. I'm runnin' down a dream that never would come to me. Workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads. Runnin' down a dream."

#5 - Funkeytown _ Lipps Inc.

There's nothing particularly enlightening about these lyrics but damn this music is catchy and fun. I love the synthesizers and the unneeded use of violins. It's one of those songs that can either be used to really bust a move or to silly dance, but I think the reason this song really lifts my mood is because it always brings the images of a Soul Train Video montage that really enjoy. I have to careful in choosing a time to start watching this video though, because it at 9 minutes, once I get started watching it, I have to finish!

#4- Semi-Charmed Life_3rd Eye Blind.

This is a song that really should not be so uplifting because of the lyrics. It's a song about a man reminiscing about a lost love and the crazy shit they used to get into. With so many hidden innuendo of Sex and drugs that it's hard to keep up with, and a quick tempo, it is a fun song to listen to but the reason why this is a song that makes me happy is because it reminds me of fun times that were similar to what this song describes. It also reminds me of why " I wanted something else" and makes me happy for having the experiences I had and have moved on from. There's nothing wrong with looking into the past, just

#3- La Vida es un Carnaval_ Celia Cruz

I love the music to this song. I love Spanish music for one, and second, Celia Cruz is a legend in Salsa music but this song is much more. It's a reminder that no matter how bad things seem to get, you can always trust in the Creator to help you when you need it. It's a reminder that life is meant to be loved and enjoyed and those who seek to make the world ugly must be filtered out of power. The Vida es un Carnaval translates to Life is a Party. So sing and dance like no one is watching or like everyone is watching. We only get one life, make the most of it.

"Ay, no hay que llorar. Que la vida es un carnaval. Que es más bello vivir cantando. Oh oh oh ay, no hay que llorar . Que la vida es una carnaval Y las penas se van cantando

(Oh, there is no need to cry. That life is a carnival. That it is more beautiful to live singing. Oh oh oh, there is no need to cry That life is a carnival And the sorrows are gone singing)"

#2- Safety Dance _ Men without Hats

This is just a super fun song for me, but I do love the words too. It always puts me in good spirits and it always reminds me of of Movie Dance Montage video put to this song which I love. No matter when or where I hear Safety Dance, it will always put me in a good mood.

"We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind, Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance Well they're are no friends of mine. I say, we can go where we want to a place where they will never find, And we can act like we come from out of this world, Leave the real one far behind, and we can dance. "

#1- No Rain_ Blind Mellon

How can it not be!? This is has been my favorite Happy Song for the longest time. Not only is it a great song to sing along to but the worlds always seem to hit home with me. The Acoustic guitars with the haunting voice of Shannon Hoon makes this an instant uplifting song. It reminds me that even when it feels like people try to drag me down, I just keep doing me and hope that some people stick around to keep me company.

"All I can say is that my life is pretty plain. You don't like my point of view, you think that I'm insane. It's not sane, it's not sane. I just want someone to say to me, I'll always be there when you wake, yeah You know I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today, So stay with me and I'll have it made."
