S.O.T.F.U.

So a group of Senators and lawmakers have decided to skip the State of the Union, scheduled to take place on January 30,2018. The list includes Rep. Earl Blumenauer of Oregon,Rep. John Lewis of Georgia,Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington,Rep. Barbara Lee of California,Rep. Maxine Waters of California,Rep. Frederica Wilson of Florida,Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Illinois,Gregory Meeks of New York ,Rep. Albio Sires of New Jersey,Rep. Bobby Rush of Illinois,Reps. Juan Vargas of California and Danny Davis of Illinois. Also not planning to attend is Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsburg but that’s not really out of the ordinary for a SCOTUS Justice to not show.

All the Representatives not attending have cited different reasons to their boycott that include such things like difference of opinions on Immigration Policy, The Travel Ban, Taxes , the accused shit-hole comment  and blah, blah, blah. Fact is that all of the reasons they are giving to not attend the State of the Union are Bullshit. As The Rock may say “IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOUR EXCUSE IS!” , and it really doesn’t. Delusional Rep. Frederica Wilson ( Space Age Cowboy) claims "to go would be to honor the President and I don't think he deserves to be honored at this time..”

I never knew that the SOTU was supposed to be an “Honors” Ceremony. She says lots of stupid things so I don’t pay her any mind, but the thought that this event should be one that is allowed to be  skipped by any representatives of the people of the United States, because of political differences, is ludacris.

The purpose is mainly to allow the President to address all the Representatives as well as the people of the United States and bring them up to date on the progress of the Country and the outlook for the immediate future. Though it is true that this tradition has mainly turned into a cheer leading session by those in current power, it is still an important event  because this is usually the only time that the President of the United States will stand in front of the entire House and Senate, and usually the only time the people of this great country will see the entirety of those that have been elected to represent us.

I understand that the party not in control has to sit there and grind their teeth during this event but tough shit! Most of these Congresspeople are career politicians who have had their turn in control of the Government. To now suggest that they are not going because they are not in power or not getting what they want,  is not only petty, It’s childish.

The people of this nation do their part every election cycle and vote their conscious to grant fellow citizens the privilege to be the people's voices, to stand in our place and  represent the hundreds of thousands of citizens of their respective  states. This not a charity either, our representative are paid very generously by us citizens to do this, but this should not just be a job, this should be an absolute  honor and one that should be given the highest respect.

There will always be differences of opinions between the Parties. This will never change. These difference and these debates and arguments are just signs that the Government is working the way it’s supposed to work. There are 323.1 million people in the United States. It is foolish to believe that we are all going to agree on the same things, so no matter which party is in office, there are going to be millions of people that will not agree with their decisions, but those decisions still affect every single one of us and because they do, we should all, always, be well informed and represented, especially when the person that was elected to be The President of the United States is addressing the country.

These Congressmen and women  that I mentioned above that have decided to not represent the people of their states at the State of The Union should be ashamed of themselves. They have decided that their ideology is more important than the people of their state. They forget that they do not just represent those people that share the same politics as they do, they also represent those that don’t, and because of this, alone, they should be at the House of Representatives and do their duty; to sit in our place and represent us. They don’t have to like it, Hell, most people don’t like going to meetings, or think that they are smarter than their bosses, but just as we go and sit,  and usually roll our eyes, so should the people that we, not only, elected to be there in our place, but are also fucking paying to be there, doing their damn jobs!

Don't be afraid.... That ringing you hear in your ears is just a bit of ...
