Equal / Not Equal

Never debate with anybody you don't acknowledge as intellectual equals. There are few that are open enough to be able to share ideas with , but don't allow yourself to be pulled into debate with those whose arguments rely on feeling and judgment, rather than truth and logic.

This may come off as pompous or arrogant, but I don't mean for it to. I am not arguing IQ, per say. What I am trying to relay is that some people are either too ignorant to engage in intellectual conversation or , matter of factually, too prideful to be wrong.

"Every form of addiction is bad, no matter whether the narcotic be alcohol or morphine or idealism. "

Carl Jung

It takes a certain kind of person now a days to not be so attached to their beliefs. People have become so entangled to their opinions and beliefs that it has become part of their identity. To question their stances on any issues, or worse, to prove them incorrect has become an attack on their entire existence. This kind of attack is personal, and the "victim" will defend themselves, physically if need be. All, for a belief. This is the foundation of "micro-aggression"

"Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through argument, debate and doubt, to offer a solution everybody can understand."

Colin Powell

As I've stated before, I now would rather have a discussion, rather than a debate. In a debate, one tries to convince the other they are wrong on their ideas, beliefs or ideals; in discussions however, the two parties are only exchanging ideas, with the hopes of offering a different perspective. There is no pressure to change the other's mind.

This has taken me a long time to learn but I have, and I stand firm on this. Some people are too set in their ways to allow any other view, but , that's their problem, not mine.
